BARRHEAD – Barrhead Paddle River Golf Club ended the season on a high note after a hole-in-one record was achieved in September.
The club closed on Sept. 28 for the season.
September’s highlight at the Barrhead Paddle River Golf Club was the hole-in-one event. On Sept. 2 at 11:52 a.m. Jake Symon, a 13-year-old, hit a hole-in-one on hole five.
“He is the youngest player ever to achieve a hole-in-one and the club’s only hole-in-one this year,” said the golf course manager.
The previous youngest player to hit a hole in one was 15 years old. This was a great milestone to end the year off at the Barrhead Paddle River Golf club.
“Our volunteers and our regular players deserve a big shout-out,” said the golf course manager.
Alan Corke has been mowing the greens all season as well as playing golf up to five times a week.
At the start of the season the greens had a good deal of winter kill and Arley Corbett stepped up to volunteer.
He has been at the golf club everyday looking after the greens, watering and nurturing the course.
Micky Fitzgerald has been a huge help at the golf course helping with the senior's days, men’s night, golf tournament events and the Young and Old Tournament to name a few.
Willowbend has their annual event with the largest group of golfers gathering at the club each year. The Niddeies memorial golf event brings familiar faces back to the club. The Chalifous memorial golf event is a regular annual tradition.
“It is great to see and visit with these groups each year during their events,” said the manager.
The glow golf is the manager's favourite event. It happened on Sept. 28, starting at 9 p.m., with 28 people registered.
The course, tee-off areas, flags and golf balls all light up and it is great fun to watch the golf balls sail through the dark night sky while golfers play their way around the course.
The Barrhead Paddle River Golf Club plans to open again next May long weekend.
