No one injured in Barrhead semi versus pickup truck collision

Driver of pickup truck issued driving suspension for failing to comply with a roadside alcohol screening device

BARRHEAD - It could have been worse, especially considering the damage to one of the vehicles involved in a two-vehicle accident, a semi-truck versus a pickup truck at Highway 18 and Highway 33 intersection.

That is what multiple emergency personnel said after they saw the damage done to a full-sized pickup truck on Sept. 23.

Deputy fire chief Ted Amos said he could not believe no one was seriously injured in the collision, adding the two drivers and sole occupants of the vehicle were shaken, suffering only minor injuries.

Barrhead RCMP Sgt. Colin Hack said the accident happened roughly at 4:30 p.m.

"An eastbound semi, with a 'Super B' approached the Highway 33 and Highway 18 intersection or two-mile corner when a northbound white Ford pickup truck failed to stop at the stop sign and ended up colliding with the back trailer," he said, adding the force of the collision forced the semi to jackknife and go into the ditch.

Hack added the driver of the pickup received a driver's suspension for failing to comply with ASD or a roadside alcohol screening device after police noticed alcohol in the vehicle.

"No injuries, no one was hospitalized, and both vehicles were towed from the scene," he said.
