Two key Town of Barrhead posts have been filled by women with “outstanding” qualifications.
Sue Keenan, executive director at BC School Sports in B.C. for more than 10 years, has been appointed Parks and Recreation Department director. She starts on Jan. 6.
Meanwhile, Debbie Crossland last week started work as Aquatic Supervisor.
The Town’s Chief Administrative Officer Martin Taylor expressed his delight with the appointments.
He said Keenan and Crossland possessed the right qualifications, experience and personalities for their respective roles.
“They were outstanding candidates,” he said. “They will be very good for Barrhead.”
The Parks director’s job has been vacant since the resignation in September of Lyle Hannan, who replaced Cindy Bowie.
Keenan has a University of Alberta bachelor degree in physical education. She also obtained a Master of Arts in organizational leadership from Royal Roads University.
From August 1994 to March 2001 she was manager of the Recreation and Parks Department at Parkland County.
She then worked for two years as manager of Program Services at Panorama Recreation Centre in Capital Regional District in Victoria. B.C.
In July 2003, Keenan became executive director at BC Sports, the governing body for the delivery of high school sports in the B.C.
“I am looking forward to her taking up the position,” said Taylor. “She is a very dynamic, outgoing, bubbly and passionate person. I am very pleased that we have been able to hire her.”
Crossland, a replacement for Laura Munroe, who resigned in September, has a strong background in pool management, said Taylor.
A level three operator for pools, she has worked in the City of Brooks and Lethbridge and is qualified in life saving courses.
“Level three is extremely high,” said Taylor.
In a report to Town council on Monday, Dec. 9, Taylor thanked his staff for their efforts and team work in the delivery of services.
“I am very pleased with their work ethic,” he said.
