BARRHEAD – A new family medicine physician, Dr. Nimota Bakare, has been recruited to practice at the Barrhead Healthcare Centre, joining a team of 12 other doctors and two specialists within the community.
According to an Alberta Health Services (AHS) release issued on June 22, Dr. Bakare will also open a family medicine practice once renovations have been completed at her clinic space in the Barrhead Medical Centre.
“I want to extend a warm welcome to Dr. Bakare,” said Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock MLA Glenn van DIjken. “Her arrival strengthens the local medical team and will make a difference in the lives of those who rely on our local healthcare services.”
Originally hailing from Nigeria, Dr. Bakare completed her medical training at St. George’s University in Grenada, followed by post-graduate studies in South Affrica.
The release notes that Dr. Bakare has a passion for psychiatry and women’s health, but also enjoys learning new things. She and her husband have three sons ages two, four and six who love any activity that keeps them on the move.
“I’m looking forward to being part of the community and creating positive impact,” she said, in the release.
The release notes that AHS is continuing to recruit physicians for communities across northern Alberta and has resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities.
They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RHPAP), and independent physician attraction and retention committees.
