NEERLANDIA – A group of local kids raised $130 for a local family who lost their home to fire at a pop-up market, the Sonshine Boutique at the Neerlandia Replica store, last month.
Eva Visser had shared the story of the family in Vega that had lost their house to fire on Thursday, Sept. 19 with her children, Luke, age 8 and Noah, age 6.
The fire happened on the same day as the pop-up market at the Neerlandia Replica store on the parking lot of the Neerlandia Co-Op.
Visser’s children, along with Charlie Krikke, age 5, had a lemonade stand set up to add to the money being raised for charities through the sales at the Sonshine Boutique.
“My oldest, Luke, came up to me and said 'Mom, I would like to give the money from the lemonade stand to the family that lost their home so they can have a little head start for a new house,” shared Visser.
“As a mom you feel absolutely so proud that they have their heart in the right spot at being at 8 years old and 6 years old.”
Visser had explained to her son that if all the children agreed that was where their money should go then that was what they would do.
The children had the lemonade stand set up on Thursday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 21 beside the Sonshine Boutique at the Neerlandia Replica building in the Neerlandia Co-op parking lot.
“On Saturday when all the kids were together on the lemonade stand, they were telling people about what this money is pointing towards,” stated Visser.
“The people were just so touched by that and just kept on putting money in there and giving them tips and buying more lemonade. It was quite amazing to see.”
The lemonade stand raised $130 over the two days for the family from Vega whose house was consumed by fire.
