Misty Ridge Ski Hill open for the season

Don't miss out on all the fun at Misty Ridge Ski Hill

BARRHEAD – Misty Ridge Ski Hill is open this year as of Dec. 26 and is ready for visitors who want fun, adventure and fantastic experiences in along the shores of the Athabasca River.

“We're hoping everyone, including young families, will come out who are interested in skiing and hopefully like it and keep coming,” said Daniella Wierenga, secretary of Misty Ridge.

Misty Ridge Ski Hill has downhill skiing, snowboarding and cross-country ski trails along the Athabasca River and recently added a package for families.

“One includes just the lift tickets and then one includes lifts plus rentals. That's two adults and two kids and additional kids is a little bit extra,” said Wierenga.

Families of four can ski all day for $130 including rentals in one of the most scenic spots within 30 minutes from Barrhead.

Misty Ridge Ski Hill offers lessons in skiing and snowboarding that can be booked in advance at [email protected]

You can also purchase season passes through that email address.

Different schools in the area make Misty Ridge Ski Hill a school day trip each year.

“The kids always have a great time,” said Wierenga.

The ski hill operates from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., giving people lots of time to get runs down the hill.

There is a concession on site to get some delicious treats throughout the day.

Weather is a daily factor at the ski hill and there can be occasional closures due to weather and you can find those last-minute notifications on their Facebook page.

Misty Ridge Ski Hill has been a popular location since 1972.

Last year, because of lack of snow, they were unable to operate.

They ran into a little bad luck with their T-Bar lift breaking down.

The T-Bar is 50 years old and required parts from Switzerland to complete the repairs and ensure the equipment was up to safety standards.

The maintenance repairs cost $45,000 and depleted the Misty Ridge Ski Hill operating funds.
