LIFT Conference elevates Barrhead business network

A stellar full house first Barrhead Business Conference made an imprint on business owners and community members

BARRHEAD – The County of Barrhead hosted the first annual LIFT Business conference on Oct. 19.

There were 115 notable business leaders who attended to Learn, Inspire, Focus and Thrive (LIFT) with 48 participating in the Trade Show mid-day.

“I hope that you can find some useful information here that you can energize your sales force or get your ambitions going in your businesses," Reeve Doug Drozd, County of Barrhead said.

“It's going to be a great day. Learn something and have the opportunity to network.”

Jenny Bruns, County of Barrhead Economic Development Officer, said, “We wanted to do something for the businesses where we could get them talking to each other and getting them talking to the community.”

“We get to see and discuss all of the things that are connecting each other.”

The County of Barrhead was awarded the Small Communities Opportunities grant, and the LIFT Business Conference evolved.

There was a big turnout from businesses and community members alike to attend the trade show and business conference activities.

The County of Barrhead representatives, Reeve Doug Drozd, Walter Preugschas, Marvin Schatz were the figureheads attending with the Town of Barrhead Councillor Ty Assaf.

There were several business support organizations present for businesses to meet and discuss services including Communities Futures Yellowhead East, Barrhead Chamber of Commerce, Barrhead and Westlock Employment Services, and Business Link.

Travel Alberta and Invest Alberta were also available at the business conference.

All of these organizations offer support to businesses in networking supports, business plans, marketing strategies, funding and investment options and staffing recruitment, as well as education.

Assaf summarized the event, “I thought it was very successful! I had the opportunity to meet a lot of businesses where I never had an opportunity before.”

 “The energy in the trade show, the energy in the room here, the quality of the keynote speakers, was top-notch.”
