The Barrhead Parks and Recreation team took a shot at something new this year, the first annual Barrhead Community in Lights.

The Community in Lights is a program that encourages all residents to participate in the beautifying of Barrhead. Everyone was encouraged to participate in the month long competition, which began at the beginning of December, and polished off on Dec. 18.

The Parks and Recreation team is excited to see what the community comes up with for next year.

Participation is as easy as setting up a few lights and awaiting the results.

This year’s judges were Sue Keenan, Brandy Stiegert, and Liz Kletzel, who went from home to business judging for two separate categories on Thursday, Dec. 18.

The winners of the first annual Community in Lights for the businesses was the Co-op Gas Bar, with DeHerdt Gardens, and Hillcrest both receiving an honourable mention.

The winners for the residential category were first place on 43A Street, second place on Mehden Road, and third place going to a residence in the trailer park.
