BARRHEAD - Barrhead area residents can mark Canada's 157th anniversary in Barrhead and Neerlandia on July 1.
In Barrhead, festivities begin at Freson Bros. between 11 a.m. and noon with a fundraising barbeque for the Town of Barrhead parks and recreation summer programming.
Activities then move to the Barrhead, Agrena, sportsgrounds, and splash park.
The Agrena's concession stand, splash park and beer garden will open at noon. The latter, a new addition to Barrhead's Canada Day celebration, will be open until 7 p.m.
The Barrhead Regional Fire Services (BRFS) will also host a slip and slide from noon to 2 p.m.
At 2 p.m., local singing folk/rock duo Sauvage Plain will perform a one-hour concert. From 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., the pop-up carnival, along with bouncy houses, a mini-golf course, and a face painting booth, will be open in the Agrena ice rink.
Festivities will conclude at 10 p.m. with a fireworks display launched from the sports grounds by the Barrhead Regional Fire Services.
Neerlandia
The Neerlandia Sports Committee will also host a Canada Day celebration in the hamlet. Festivities start with a Twoonie pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., the concession and pie booth, water ramp, and bouncy castle will open. At 11 a.m., the singing of Oh Canada will take place, followed by various all-age races. From 9 a.m. to about 4:30 p.m., tractor races will occur.
All the activities will occur at the old Neerlandia Co-op service station building, across from Neerlandia Public Christian School.
