BREAKING: Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Barrhead, Westlock, Athabasca

BARRHEAD – Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch at 9:11 am on July 24.

Weather conditions that could develop severe thunderstorms are occurring.

Favourable conditions could produce thunder, lightning, strong wind gusts, rain and hail.

The risks of these storms will last until late tonight.

The situation is developing and thunderstorms have already occurred in some areas.

Lac La Nonne saw rain and small hail before 10 a.m.

It is important to remember that severe thunderstorms conditions cause tornadoes to develop.

Lightning is very dangerous. People are hurt and killed by lightning every year warns Environment Canada.

They caution to go indoors when you hear thunder.

The areas listed by Environment Canada that can be affected area;

  • Athabasca County near Athabasca and Island Lake
  • Westlock County near Westlock and Clyde
  • County of Barrhead near Barrhead and Lac La Nonne
