BARRHEAD – There is a committee in town whose prime objective is to find great acts and bring them to Barrhead for the communities enjoyment.

The Barrhead Art Council has been around for as far back as 1986 holding four to five shows a year for Barrhead residents.

“We are attending an annual Showcase at Fort Saskatchewan this weekend. Our committee attends and watches at least 40 acts from which we plan our next season,” said president Jen Lechelt.

“It is a great weekend of networking. All provincial presenters attend, which includes Arden Theatre, Horizon Stage in Spruce Grove, Dow Centre, Fort Sask.”

“Our selection is from professional high-calibre performers from Alberta and the rest of Canada.”

The committee members include Jen Lechelt, president; Jane Kusal, secretary; Adelheid Semler, treasurer; Ruth Hewitt, contracts; and Ruth Bohn, tickets and support.

The Barrhead Art Council showcases four artists from various genres over the winter season.

There can, on occasion, be a fifth show added to the season.

Season tickets for the 2024/2025 four shows are $100.

The reason that the tickets are so low in price is that the Barrhead Art Council receives a subsidy from the Alberta Arts Foundation.

Individual show tickets are $30 at the door for performances that are not sold-out.

“This year we are almost sold out so we tell our patrons to make sure they pass their ticket on if they cannot make a show,” said Lechelt.

“Our 'ticket office' is at Comfort Corner.”

Shows are held at the Barrhead Composite High School theatre beginning at 7:30 pm for each performance.

It is best to use the north entrance of the school. You can get to parking by turning into the Bus Lane at the Sunset Motel.

The first performance is on November 14th with Toomy Charles, a country singer with a classy touch.

The Barrhead Art Council has continued support from wonderful sponsors from Barrhead.

The Council is most appreciative to their sponsors who are Back Forty, Comfort Corner, McLean Distributors, and Shannon Carlson of RE/MAX.

“We have a super committee but will need new blood soon so interested new members are welcomed.”
