Barrhead RCMP Cpl. Filipe Vicente briefs Town of Barrhead Council on Feb. 13.

Barrhead's RCMP detachment is down three bodies from full staffing right now but should be back up to full strength in April.

Cpl. Filipe Vicente, the detachment's interim commanding officer, briefed Town of Barrhead council on the staffing situation at its Feb. 13 meeting.

Of the 10 established positions, seven officers are currently working with the official retirement of detachment commander Sgt. Bob Dodds as of Dec. 31. The new commander, Sgt. Colin Hack, will be on duty soon pending the sale of his current home in Parkland County.

Officers have also been lined up for the two general duty spots currently vacant, with one experienced member coming from Hanna expected to start near the end of March or the beginning of April and a new recruit from the RCMP Depot i Regina also scheduled to start in the first week of April.

However, another current member will be transferring out later this year, probably by June, Vicente added. "Unfortunately it's a revolving door with staffing."
