Barrhead Bombers still hunting for their first win

Club drops 7-2 home decision to the Vegreville Vipers

BARRHEAD - The Barrhead Bombers are still looking for their first win of the season.

On Friday, Oct. 21, the Bombers lost 7-2 against the Vegreville Vipers in Canadian-American Junior Hockey League action at home.
After the first period, the Vipers held a 2-0 lead and outshot their hometown opponents 22-5.

In the second period, Vegreville extended their lead by scoring another three goals and, once again, held a wide territorial advantage which showed on the shot clock with the Vipers outshooting the Bombers 19-5.

In the final frame, the Vipers added two more goals to their total early in the period.

However, the Bombers broke Vegreville's shutout bid, scoring two goals in the last half of the period after officials ejected head coach Mario Haase for verbally abusing them and successfully killing off several penalties, including a stretch when they were two-man shorthanded.

The Barrhead Bombers' goals were by Garrick Denuchuk and Justin Auger. Jace Berreth went the distance in net stopping 55 of the 62 he faced.

The Barrhead Bombers next play at home on Saturday against Calgary AMP Warriors. In their home opener, the Bombers lost a close 4-3 in overtime. The puck drop is at 3:30 p.m.
