Barrhead Beef Bash shows fine quality cattle

All Champions crowned at the Beef Bash are now qualifiers for Alberta High Point Series and the Farmfair International Supreme

BARRHEAD – More than 80 contestants and 150 animals made a parade at the Barrhead Agricultural Barn Saturday, Sept. 28 for one of the season's early cattle shows in Northern Alberta, the fourth annual Beef Bash.

Coleton Hamilton was the judge for the open show.

“It has been a very impressive day with an impressive amount of cattle and quality of cattle,” remarked Hamilton.

“These cattle will be competitive to the end of the fall so I think that’s definitely a testament to the calibre of show these guys have put on today.”

The Super Champion Bull crowned was Boss Lake Genetics, from Parkland County, with Boss Lake Convoy 319L, black Angus, the overall grand champion.

The Reserve Champion, overall bull, crowned was Blanchette Ranch Ltd, from Edam, SK, with SVY Verified 202K, Charolais.

“The quality ran deep today,” said Aaron Pastrick, the judge for the junior show.

The Overall Champion Junior Female crowned was to Brandl Cattle Co, from Jarvie, AB, with LFE BA Echo 3K, Angus.

The Junior Reserve Champion crowned was to Cinder Angus, from Barrhead, AB, with Bluey, Angus X.

All Champions crowned at the Beef Bash are now qualifiers for the Alberta High Point Series and the Farmfair International Supreme.

Farmfair International announced the Barrhead Beef Bash as a qualifier on Aug. 19 on the Farmfair International Facebook page.

Dwayne Emery, one of the board directors who helped organize the event, and his wife Joanne had seven entries in the Beef Bash.

“I have been in cattle for 41 years and we have DwaJo Angus farm, raising purebred red Angus cattle,” said Emery.

The Dwajo Angus Farm is located in the Camp Creek area.

The On Target Bull Sale happens in the spring and 2025 will be their 25th anniversary year according to Emery. Emery, Barclay Smith, Bradley Yoder and Jessy Emery are all directors who organized the Barrhead Beef Bash together.

Mark Shologan was the announcer for the day, keeping everyone up-to-date throughout each of the activities, while Neerlandia Co-op supported the event with a generous prize package.

Farmfair International is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year at their event in Edmonton on Saturday Nov. 9.
