BARRHEAD -Albertans come together for Alberta Open Farm Days in August, and through in-person visits to local farmers people get the opportunity to experience farm life.
“We would love for more farms to join to interest visitors who might travel from a distance,” said Nadine Quedenbaum, Farm Days committee member and one of this year’s host farms.
The registration deadline for farms interested in hosting is at the end of April.
“We are proud of what we are doing and how we do things,” said Quedenbaum.
“It gives us satisfaction to see consumers showing interest in learning more about where their everyday products come from.”
“Few people know the actual purpose of the Barrhead Seed Plant. Alberta Open Farm Days gives us the opportunity to show what we do,” said Uwe Quedenbaum, Chairperson of the Barrhead Seed Plant.
The Barrhead District Seed Cleaning co-op was a host at last year’s event and saw visitors come out to visit during Open Farm Days.
Alberta Open Farm Days hosts get a unique opportunity to show off farms and agriculture-related businesses to visitors from near and far.
See the wonder and amazement of visitors as they tour the farm, learning about all the mechanics of how the farm operates.
Imagine sharing your operation’s history with visitors who will re-tell your story to their friends and family with amazement.
Open Farm Days is a province-wide event that gives everyone a chance to visit farms and agriculture businesses to experience different types of agriculture industries and their products.
Free tours offered on Aug. 16 is, when businesses open their gates to visitors for the day any time between 9:30 a.m. and 5 pm.
These hosts give visitors a backstage pass into learning about their specialty in agriculture businesses.
A lunch can be provided which is an opportunity for further attraction to your business.
Farm hosts have sold their products to visitors offering another benefit to being a host farm.
Tours of the operations walk visitors through all the process steps involved.
In-depth explanations and demonstrations will peak the visitor’s interest your business’ contribution to where food comes from.
Host farms can inspire young visitors to choose agriculture business’ as their future contributing to the future of food.
“There is so much misinformation out there and we would like people to come out and see for themselves,” said Quedenbaum.
“This is the chance to ask questions directly of the farmer and get answers to their questions.”
