ATHABASCA - The Community Projects class at Edwin Parr Composite School gave students a chance to let out some stress on some of their teachers by giving them an opportunity to throw a pie at them.
Four teachers volunteered to have pies thrown at them Dec. 17 in exchange for the donation of one toy for Athabasca Santas Anonymous from each student interested in tossing one.
Community Projects teacher Megan Ledieu said her class was looking for something to bring in more Santas Anonymous donations.
“We needed an incentive for the children to bring more in, and we discussed as a class what to do to the teachers at this time of year,” Ledieu said. “So the students brought up the idea of pie throwing, and three more teachers other than myself agreed to participate.”
One of the other teachers to volunteer, Brittany Miller, said it was all in good fun.
“The pie actually tasted really good,” Miller said as she went to wash her face. “I can be talked into doing it once again next year as well.”
Ledieu added that this is the first time they had a pie throwing event at the new EPC.
“The cream in the pie mostly landed in my hair. As I haven’t been with the school that long, I can not confirm whether or not it happened at the old location,” she said. “We had four kids bring in donations, including a chess set, a checkers set, a Jenga game as well as a doll.”
She added they also sold candy grams to spread Christmas cheer during the event.
“I can see this event happening next year as well,” Ledieu said. “Hopefully next year we will have some more participation. You always have to start somewhere.”
