ATHABASCA - County councillors have a busy day ahead of them tomorrow.
Athabasca County has its regular council meeting tomorrow, with a few big-ticket items on the agenda.
First up is the County’s tax rate bylaw, which is accompanied by an updated version of the operating budget. The last draft of the budget was approved Dec. 12, 2023, and additional adjustments have been made since.
Alongside the budget, councillors will discuss the northwest Alberta Emergency Resource Agreement, which is a large-scale mutual aid agreement between municipalities in the region. Fire Services Chief Travis Shalapay has asked councillors to approve it, in part due to a current lack of agreements with the M.D. of Opportunity and the M.D. of Lesser Slave River.
Councillors will also hear from the regional RCMP leaders, including Staff Sgt. Mark Hall in Athabasca, and Sgt. Dennis Properzi in Boyle. They’ll each present their detachment's Q4 numbers for the 2023 year and discuss their priorities for 2024.
Councillors also have five other bylaws to discuss; alongside the third reading of Bylaw 007-2024, Inoperative, Obsolete, Expired, Spent, and Ineffective Bylaws, councillors will discuss and vote on three Land Use Bylaw amendments and a lot consolidation in Perryvale.
Councillors will conclude their meeting with two closed-session items: a board appointment and intergovernmental relations.
As always, the county meeting is livestreamed on Athabasca County’s YouTube channel here.
