A 32-year-old male is dead after his pickup truck collided with a semi-tractor trailer on Highway 63 last night (Nov. 5) approximately 12 kilometres north of the Highway 55 junction.

The collision took place at approximately 8:15 p.m. Boyle RCMP were called to the scene, where they pronounced the lone occupant of the pickup dead on scene. The driver of the semi-tractor trailer, which was carrying sulphur, was unhurt, and no sulphur was spilt.

"Investigation into this matter is ongoing," said Boyle RCMP Cpl. John Spaans in a press release in the early hours of Wednesday morning. "Investigators are working to determine the cause of the collision but have ruled out weather as a contributing factor."

The pickup truck was travelling east on Al-Pac's K Road, and Sgt. Kevin McGillivray said later Wednesday morning that it is believed the driver failed to stop at the junction's stop sign where the road meets Highway 63.

RCMP are still identifying the deceased and notifying next of kin.

Detours were erected into the early hours of Wednesday morning while police investigated the scene. Northbound traffic was directed to Highway 881 at the Atmore junction, and southbound traffic was directed along the Al-Pac K Road.

Traffic flow resumed on the affected area by 1:30 a.m.

Molten sulphur is a dangerous good and is classed as a flammable solid.
