Starting today, drivers along sections of Highway 63 between Highway 28 and south of Highway 663 can expect delays due to road works.

Traffic flow will be reduced to alternating single-lane use from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and delays could occasionally last as long as 20 minutes.

There will be no road work from 5–11 p.m. on Thursdays, Sundays and Mondays. Alternatively, drivers can use Highways 827 or 831 to avoid construction.

Crews are rehabilitating 46 kilometres of asphalt, improving intersections, replacing signs, repairing culverts and repainting lines at a cost of $14 million.

The work is slated to finish July 31.

Jamie Friesen, spokesperson for Alberta Transportation, said the work is unrelated to Highway 63 twinning and is focused on "bringing (the highway) back up to standard."

Work continues further north on Highway 63, including construction of two bridges near the Hamlet of Wandering River. Girder delivery, which can cause traffic delays of up to 15 minutes, is expected to wrap up May 9.
