BREAKING: Fatal accident on Hwy 2 west of Athabasca kills 14-year-old

Athabasca RCMP, Athabasca Fire Department and emergency services responded to a fatal two-vehicle collison on the evening of Nov. 18

ATHABASCA — A Nov. 18 collision between a pick-up truck and a broken-down commercial truck has resulted in the death of 14-year-old passenger. 

Athabasca RCMP, the Athabasca Fire Department, and emergency services responded to reports of a serious collision on Hwy 2 near range road 232, west of town around 6:30 p.m. Monday evening. While the investigation into the incident is still underway, the two-vehicle collision involved a broken-down commercial truck and a west-bound pick up truck. 

According to an RCMP press release, the westbound pick-up collided with the commercial vehicle, resulting in injuries to both drivers. A 14-year-old passenger travelling in the pick-up was declared deceased on scene. At this time, drugs and alcohol are not considered to be a factor. 

Alberta RCMP give their sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased. This is a profound loss of life for the family, and the community as a whole.
