Ann and Bob Fraser are the winners of this year’s Community Spirit Award in Boyle.
The Village of Boyle put out the request for nominations for the annual Community Spirit Award this past fall. The Frasers were nominated by Judy and Peter Golanski, and on Feb. 8, Don Radmanovich, Village of Boyle Mayor, presented the Frasers with the award.
“We are very pleased to receive the award,” Ann stated.
Ann and Bob have been volunteering their time in the Village of Boyle for more than 10 years and have worked hard to make a difference in their community.
“We spent last summer selling tickets on a quilt to raise money for the new building,” Ann stated, explaining the Boyle and District Senior Citizens are raising funds for a new centre. “Bob has probably been on the (senior citizens) board for 10 years.”
Ann and Bob also cook a dinner once a month at the Boyle Legion.
Dianne Duplessis, a Boyle community member, said she has known the couple for many years.
“I have known them for quite a long time,” Duplessis said. “I have four boys, and the two younger ones had contact with them when they ran the Boy Scouts camp.”
Duplessis said she always knew Bob as “Scouter Bob” because he was the scout leader in Boyle.
The Golanski family submitted a letter to the village when they nominated Ann and Bob.
“For many years, Ann and Bob have volunteered their services to a number of different organizations, some of which are the Boyle and District Senior Citizens, the Boyle Legion, and the Boyle Fitness Centre,” the letter reads. “Through the past year, Ann and Bob were instrumental in the quilt raffle for the Boyle and District Senior Citizens. Ann organized the quilters of Boyle in sewing a beautiful quilt that was presented to the seniors at no cost.
“Bob quickly stepped forward to be the raffle organizer, and they sold tickets for months,” the letter continues. “Not only did Bob control the ticket distribution; he also spent countless hours selling tickets in Boyle.”
The letter mentions that Bob is the director of the Boyle and District Senior Citizens. Ann is secretary for the Boyle Legion, and she also rides her bike to help raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
The couple has volunteered many hours to better their community.
