Nominations for the Village of Boyle council were extended into Tuesday last week as only four people stepped forward for the five council positions on Monday: incumbents Sam Assaf, David Bencharsky, Mike Antal (currently deputy mayor) and Don Radmanovich (currently mayor).

Former mayor and 26-year resident of Boyle Bob Clark said he wasn’t planning on putting his name forward, but after nominations were extended, he decided to submit his nomination papers.

“I was on the fence,” he said. “A four-year term 10 years ago wouldn’t have bothered me a bit, but I decided I would go one more time around.”

In the early ‘90s, Clark became mayor and served the Village of Boyle for 14.5 years.

“I am a retired businessman from town,” he said. “I do have the time to put in for this type of work. It is not like they are tearing me away from something else.”

Clark said he has things he likes to do in his retirement, but he doesn’t have a steady job, which could draw him away from council.

Clark was appointed to council by acclamation, but said he would have run on viability, growth and infrastructure upgrades as a platform.

“I am always big on growth for small communities,” he said. “Viability and growth, — they go hand-in-hand.”

Clark said he wants to see infrastructure upgrades constantly.

“You can’t leave it to fall behind, because all of a sudden you have tremendously big bills,” he said.

Clark said he will always listen to his constituents’ concerns.

“One person can’t change the world, but I can always lend an ear,” he said. “There are a lot of people with good ideas who can help move things forward.”

All five village councillor positions have now been filled by acclamation.
