ATHABASCA – Athabasca County Fire Services has issued a fire advisory for the lands within the county outside of the Forest Protection Area.
Under the advisory, new permits will not be issued for non-essential heavy burning, existing burn permits will not be renewed, and all other permits will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Fire Services encouraged residents to inspect permitted burn sites to ensure they are completely extinguished, as fire can smoulder underground and flare up into a wildfire under the right conditions. Landowners are responsible to ensure all permitted burns are extinguished prior to the expiration of their permit.
Fire restrictions are in place for Westlock County and the County of Barrhead.
The advisory will remain in effect until further amended or revoked by Athabasca County. For more information, visit www.albertafirebans.ca.
