TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:
Suncor earnings
Suncor Energy is set to release its first quarter results on Monday. The Calgary-based company said in March it is investing in carbon capture technology company Svante Inc. as it looks for ways to reduce or offset greenhouse gas emissions from its extensive oil and gas operations.
Loblaw results
Loblaw will release its first-quarter results on Wednesday. The company said in February that its discount grocery brands No Frills and Maxi were starting to win back market share after consumers flocked to conventional supermarkets at the outset of the pandemic.
Cineplex update
Cineplex Inc. will hold a conference call to discuss its first-quarter financial results on Thursday. The movie theatre company reached a deal with its lenders earlier this year to further amend its credit agreement as it struggles through the financial impact of the COVID-19 virus on its operations.
Air Canada earnings
Air Canada will hold a call to discuss its first-quarter results on Friday. The airline revised its COVID-19 refund policy on April 13 after a deal with the federal government in which it will receive a total of $5.9 billion in aid, including up to $1.4 billion to support the new refunds.
Telus call
Telus is set to hold a call to discuss its first-quarter results on Friday. After spinoff Telus International went public in February, chief executive Darren Entwistle suggested Bay Street and Wall Street read between the lines on other Telus Corp. divisions like Telus Health and Telus Agriculture, ahead of plans to pull back the curtain on the businesses this year.
