Southern Alberta distillery makes Canadian history with whisky award

Founder and president David Farran poses at the Eau Claire Distillery in Turner Valley on Oct. 9, 2020.

It's award after award for an iconic Alberta distillery.

To add on to its ongoing streak of accolades, Eau Claire Distillery took home a platinum medal at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

The competition, dubbed "the largest spirits competition in the world" and a "universally recognized indicator of exceptional quality and craftsmanship" on its website, awarded the Turner Valley distillery a coveted platinum award for Rupert's Exceptional Whisky.

The platinum award is bestowed after three consecutive double gold medal wins, with a double gold being awarded if the spirit is awarded gold unanimously by judges.

“To be recognized as the first Canadian distillery to achieve platinum status is an incredible honour and a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence,” said Eau Claire Distillery founder and president David Farran in a press release on May 7.

Dubbed the most awarded craft distillery in Canada, the Eau Claire Distillery won gold and silver medals at the 2024 World Whiskey Awards.
