RCMP officer charged with sexual assault back in Airdrie court Jan. 16

Const. Bridget Morla will be back at the Airdrie courthouse on Jan. 16, 2025 for election and plea to charges of sexual assault.

Morla was charged on Nov. 29, 2024, with two counts of sexual assault which took place in Airdrie on Dec. 3, 2022. She has since been released.

On Dec. 13, 2022, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed to investigate a Leduc RCMP officer for sexual assaults alleged to have occurred in the early hours of Dec. 3, 2022. The incident occurred in an Airdrie hotel room while a group of people were socializing.

Evidence gathered during ASIRT’s investigation provided reasonable grounds to believe offences had been committed. As required by the Police Act, the investigation was forwarded to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) to determine whether the evidence met the standard for prosecution.

Following a review of the investigation and having been advised by the ACPS that the evidence met their standard for prosecution, ASIRT Assistant Executive Director Matthew Block determined that the involved officer should be charged.

After charges were laid, Morla was released on an undertaking and had her first appearance in the Alberta Court of Justice in Airdrie on Dec.12.

ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
