Calgary Police Service badge stolen from trailhead near Canmore

CANMORE – Police are alerting the public about a Calgary Police Service (CPS) badge that was stolen from a vehicle parked at the Mount Yamnuska trailhead on the weekend.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 3), an off-duty CPS officer returned to their vehicle to find the vehicle had been broken into and a number of items were missing, including a CPS badge, according to police.

"It is believed the car prowling occurred some time between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.," states an alert from CPS.

"The badge will have regimental number #5296 engraved on it."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Canmore RCMP non-emergency number at 403-678-5516.

"Members of the public who are unsure of the validity of a police officer are encouraged to ask to see visible identification with a photograph or call either 9-1-1 or the CPS non-emergency number 403-266-1234, to confirm the officer’s identity," states the alert.
