A man who impersonated a police officer and fired a gun during a violent home invasion in DeWinton, just south of Calgary, was given a 10-year sentence on Jan. 17.
Two people were inside an acreage home when Armin Babic, 42, robbed them at gunpoint in 2019.
Babic attempted to present himself as a peace officer during the robbery and fired one round from a handgun before fleeing the home with stolen jewellery, another firearm and a large amount of U.S. currency.
He was arrested a short time later when his vehicle was stopped by police after a 911 call from the victims.
The sentence was handed down on Jan. 17, after Babic was found guilty on six charges, including robbery with a firearm and unlawful confinement, during a trial last year at Court of King’s Bench in Calgary.
Babic has nine years left to serve after credit for time served while awaiting trial and sentencing.
