Gateway Research Organization (GRO), an applied research association based in Westlock, has been at the forefront of agricultural innovation since 1988.

As a key participant in the Alberta Regional Variety Testing (RVT) trials, GRO plays a vital role in assessing and comparing the performance of various crop varieties (new and old) under real-world regional conditions. These trials generate valuable insights into adaptability, yield potential, and agronomic characteristics, helping local producers make informed decisions about variety selection.

Each year, the data collected from GRO’s research sites contributes to the Alberta Seed Guide, serving as a trusted resource for farmers across the province. In 2024, GRO evaluated approximately 60 cereal varieties – including wheat, barley, oats, and triticale – as well as over 30 pulse varieties, such as peas and faba beans.

With continuous advancements in plant genetics, adopting newer varieties offers distinct advantages over older ones. As GRO prepares for another productive year, we extend our best wishes to producers for a successful 2025 growing season. We welcome you to visit our office to learn more about our ongoing research and how it can support your farming operations.
