The Village of Clyde needs two more candidates to step forward as only three have submitted their paperwork. Nomination day has been extended until noon, Sept. 21.

WESTLOCK –  The Village of Clyde is still two candidates short of meeting the minimum requirement of five to fill all spots on council.

Due to the insufficient number of candidates, CAO Ron Cust announced just after 4 p.m. Sept. 20 that under section 31 of the Local Authorities Elections Act, candidate nominations will reopen at 10 a.m. Sept. 21 and will remain open until noon. Further extensions may be required to fill the remaining openings.

Gerald Austin was the first of three candidates to declare candidacy followed by two others whose names will be released following the closure of nominations Tuesday.

Incumbent Art Purdy stated that he would not be running again, and Nat Dvernichuk resigned from his position on council earlier in the summer due to health concerns. Mayor Christa Clausing, Doug Nyal, and Danielle Dillman have yet to publicly declare their candidacy.
