Diane (Parsons) Wiedrick
September 5, 1943 - May 5, 2024
Diane Helen Wiedrick (nee Parsons) was born premature to Deisel and Phoebe Parsons September 5, 1943. Her family of origin later included brothers Charles and Fred. Westlock was home for her youth prior to university: an Arts degree (University of Alberta) and A Social Work degree (University of British Columbia). Diane’s social work service covered southeastern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan based primarily out of Lethbridge.
She reconnected with a high school classmate, who would be the love of her life - Marvin Wiedrick. They spent their first married years in Fort Vermilion before moving to Berwyn and then Grimshaw. Motherhood arrived with three children in four years: Jim, John, and Janelle. When all reached school age, work outside the home involved administration roles for the local RCMP detachment and Kennedy Elementary School. Her health would force early retirement and yet always her love of people and gift of hospitality were on full display.
Diane and Marvin retired to Rocky Mountain House within the vista of her beloved mountains. They enjoyed family and friends and travel with a special affinity for cruises. When health slowed that focus, drives in the west country provided joy. Diane’s final years were spent in care. Twice daily visits from Marvin kept connection and demonstrated a devoted love.
Diane’s legacy includes many years in charity service to church, the Red Cross and the Multiple Sclerosis society. Her heart for people, open door and always present willingness to stop and talk touched many.
Diane returned home to her heavenly Saviour on May 5, 2024. Diane will be greatly missed by her husband of 55 years Marvin, children Jim (Teresa) of Nelson, John (Tanys) of Kamloops and Janelle (Edward) of Rocky Mountain House, her brothers Charlie and Fred, and her grandchildren Hannah, Madelyn, Rachel, Zachary, Alex, Anthony, Kierstin and Arieanna. In accordance with Diane’s wishes there will be a private gathering at a later date, but donations can be made to the Red Cross, the Good Samaritan Society Clearwater Center or a charity of one’s choice.
