Town of Barrhead councillors approved two proclamation requests at their April 23 meeting, the first from the Alberta Disabilities Workers Association (ADWA) to declare May 20 to 26, 2024, as Alberta Disability Services Professional Appreciation Week.
In his letter to the council, ADWA president Alexander Stoye noted that the province has already issued the proclamation, and the association is asking municipalities to do the same.
"By doing so, we can collectively raise awareness about the essential role that [professional employed in community disability services] play in enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities who live, work and play in communities across Alberta," he stated.
