A vehicle blaze near the Boyle School had staff and students on a 'hold and secure' for part of the afternoon while responding crews doused the flames April 17.

BOYLE — The Boyle RCMP and fire department responded to a truck fire near Boyle School on the afternoon of April 17.

In a post on its Facebook page made at approximately 2 p.m., Boyle School noted the fire had been extinguished and thanked the efforts of the RCMP, fire department, and the concerned citizen who notified school staff of the incident.

According to a statement from Aspen View Public Schools, the village school initiated a 'hold and secure' at approximately 12:30 p.m. due to a vehicle fire on Highway 663, adjacent to the school.

'Hold and secure' drills differ from lockdowns — a 'hold and secure' is a procedure used when a threat is in the general area of, but not on, school property. During a 'hold and secure,' external doors are locked and entry or exit is not permitted, but students and staff can typically move freely within the building. Lockdowns are more serious responses to immediate safety concerns to staff and students where all internal and external doors are locked and no movement between areas of facility are permitted.

For staff and students in Boyle, the 'hold and secure' was lifted at approximately 1:45 p.m. on the advice of the fire department. The vehicle involved was not associated with the school, and no injuries or damage to school property resulted from the incident.
